Write a story in the form of a single letter from one character to another, asking for help. How can you imply the backstory without exposition? How can you show character change in letter form? How can you conclude the letter with an ending that allows the reader to fill in what happens next?

To His Royal Highness, King Jareth;
It came to my attention while patrolling the Bog of Eternal Stench, three days ago, that there is some new element of danger in our midst. While heading for Pit's Pot, Ambrosius sniffed out a startling shard of shell along the footpath. I sniffed at it myself and I believe it to be the shell of a gargantuan spider egg. Sire, this is most troubling since giant spiders have been rumored to ingest fairies and small creatures.
I did ask my friend Hoggle, who you know to have extensive knowledge of the gardens and grounds of the Labyrinth, about the egg shell and he believes that it "ain't nuthin". I do believe he is quite indefinitely wrong. I implore you to send help right away.
There was one time, years ago, when I ran across a large sparrow. I had to fend it off before it could eat my steed. Two men on that mission perished. The sparrow was very fast and when he cried out, it was deafening. I put my paw down when it came after me and said "No more, worm-eater!" At first I thought it had flown off at my initial attack and I took it for a coward. Alas, it came back and I managed to plunge my sword straight through it's chest. It was a victory for all!
Except, I suppose, for those who had fallen in battle.
I am, obviously, experienced in dealing with creatures of a large size. I ask that you send your best men to assist in finding and dispatching the terrible arachnid that has found it's way into the Labyrinth. Have them bring jars of flies. I have spent the last few days studying spiders and find that they love to capture and eat flies. My hopes are to release the flies to attract the foul arachnid, slay the beast, and be heralded a great hero!
Your loyal knight, Sir Didymus
