Throughout Labyrinth there are constant themes of isolation and loneliness. Let me start by saying that there is a difference between isolation and loneliness. Isolation is the state of being away from others; solitude. Loneliness is the feeling of sadness or longing for association, caused by isolation.
Isolation
Isolation can be seen with almost all the characters in the film.
Hoggle seems rather isolated from the entire labyrinth at the beginning of the film, though we aren't 100% sure if he's just there working or what.
Sarah, while having family around her, seems to be isolated because she lives in her head - unless you count Merlin. Sir Didymus is similar in this aspect because he has Ambrosius, but then again he is willingly isolated in the BOES (he gave an oath, it wasn't an order given to him).
Ludo had goblins with nipper sticks around him, but he seemed pretty isolated and eager for a friend. You would think that if there was another like him, then they would have helped. Jareth also had goblins around, he even talked and sang to them, but I keep getting the impression that he is isolated in his castle and perhaps in his role as Goblin King. I didn't see anyone else that remotely resembled Jareth - other than Sarah. I also think it would be hard on Jareth to be King of such goofy goblins. Imagine the conversations or lack of...
Loneliness
"'Alone' is a pathetic predicament. 'Lone' is an aesthetic choice." - Batmanuel 'The Tick'
It's strange, but nearly all of the main characters have loneliness issues in 'Labyrinth', did you notice? Sarah, Hoggle, Ludo, Sir Didymus, Jareth, the Knockers (kind of), and the False Alarms (kind of). The knockers and false alarms both have (at least) another around them, but they have issues. The knockers - one can't speak and the other can't hear. It's left them grumpy. The false alarms don't seem to have any conversation with each other. When Sarah and Hoggle pass through the one says "Oh please! It's been such a long time."
